2000 Saab Viggen convertible, $6,500

Saabnet says this is priced right. In addition to the 9-5's 230hp turbos 2.3, Viggens had unique suspension, Viggen-logo leather seats and specific 17-inch wheels. These are not those wheels--they were fragile and essentially every Viggen you'll see has something like this optional Saab alloy. They only imported 800, out of under 3,000 built worldwide.

Silver convertible 2000 Saab Viggen. Has black interior. Low 102,000 miles (averages out to 8,500 miles per year.) First year for the Viggen Convertible. Limited numbers produced making this a collectable Saab. Air conditioning blows cold. Car runs excellent. This is my personal vehicle (I'm 65 so not hot rodded) that I have upgraded with the following: ECU tuned to Stage I by Nick Taliaferro of Taliaferro Saab, aftermarked larger inter-cooler installed, cold air intake, Saab Viggen rescue kit added, rear anti-sway bar and Koni adjustable shocks. Price reduced to $6500. Trades considered.

The Viggen will shock you with its acceleration and high-speed prowess, but stay out of the turbo and the five-speed will give you 30 MPG on the highway. An extraordinary car.

1979 Mercedes Benz 450SEL 6.9, $10,500

Is this the greatest of all Mercedes? It was certainly the greatest car in the world in its day, even if no one understood it. Well, some people did: Paul Frère, for example, drove his press car to 148 MPH. But as the M-100 Group said,
Some people find it difficult  even impossible, to understand the appeal of the 450SEL 6.9. Here was a car that looked exactly the same as another Mercedes costing £11,000 less in Britain at the time of writing. Only the fatter tyres and a little '6.9' badge on the tail gave the game away (and you could, if you wished, have the badge left off). On the road, this superlative vehicle could even be mistaken for one of the still smaller models at perhaps a third of its price. It was therefore poles apart from the Wagnerian splendour of the model 600 Pullman, or the flamboyance of the pre-war Grosser Mercedes. In terms of subtlety, you might as well compare a performance by Sir Alec Guinness with a turn by Danny La Rue.
But it was built for one, very serious purpose: To cover long distances at high speed. It does that in any conditions with utmost competence.

***ONLY 30,500 MILES***
RARE COLLECTABLE only 576 sold in 1979 in the US (a total of 1,816 Mercedes 6.9s were sold in the USA from 1976- 1980, making this an extremely rare vehicle)
This beautiful flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class was the fastest production sedan built in its' day. Known as the doctor's hotrod, this is truly an exotic and exciting car. This car's reliable drivability makes it a great daily driver, and the preserved quality and low mileage make this a great collectable.
This is your chance to own one of the greatest automobiles ever construction.
This Benz SEL is equipped withMercedes' 6.9 V8 engineAutomatic TransmissionHeight Adjustable SuspensionCold A/CHeatPower SunroofPower WindowsOriginal Becker Radio SystemCurrent Virginia Inspection
The following are a couple notable references to the car's history and quality:"In a poll conducted by Britain's Classic & Sports Car magazine and printed in their April 1999 edition, the Mercedes-Benz 6.9 ranked fourth on their list of the "world's greatest saloons." The May 2004 edition of another British publication, Mercedes Enthusiast magazine, ranked the 6.9 number fifteen on their all-time top twenty list of great Mercedes-Benz automobiles."

You'd be paying less than a quarter the original retail price for what David E. said was "the ultimate manifestation of the basic Daimler-Benz idea of how automobiles are supposed to be designed and built—the best Mercedes-Benz automobile ever sold." And that is really saying something--this is the best deal we've ever featured on The Cars of Lehho.

Read David E.'s feature on it. You must buy this car.

UPDATE: The full pdf of the feature should be readable.

EVEN MORE UPDATE: My buddy Gerry Van Zandt and the 500E board have a discussion going on this very car

1991 Mercedes-Benz 300SL, $11,950

Little changed from its introduction the year before, Mercedes' new 300SL used a DOHC 3.5-liter straight six for 230hp, and came with a five-speed. At under 100,000 miles, the R129 is just getting broken in. You'll see a little wear here, but it's got a brand new top, good seats and is coming out of Florida, its natural environment. You could do a lot worse.

1991 Porsche 944 S2, $7,500

So read my buyer's guide on the 944, but what an awesome car. This is the non-turbo which, let's face it, is the more affordable way to go. A little recommissioning work needed but nothing serious. OK, sure, Hawaii, but how much fun to get it home, right? Plus--not so much in the road salt department.

1994 Nissan 300ZX, $12,999

The big number is 9,543, as in original miles. Fine, not a convertible. But come on! This is incredible. So much I'm including two photos.

5-speed! 1980 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL roadster, $12,990

What would it take to get you into an S-class? How about the European-only 5-speed? And 68,000 miles? Hard and soft tops? This a is truly unbeatable deal for one of the all-time great cars. AND it's in Mamaroneck, which must be more or less on your way to work? You can't not stop by to see it.

Absolutely Stunning 1980 Mercedes Euro 280 SL roadster that is in amazing original condition throughout! This awesome Mercedes is the desired Euro model, which is nearly impossible to find especially in this condition because this vehicle was never marketed in the USA. This vehicle possesses the sought after extremely rare manual transmission coupled with the straight 6 engine. In addition this solid example has very low original mileage. It includes both hard and soft tops.
While very clean and nice all around, this car is original, not restored, and does show some wear. It’s certainly in excellent shape but not show quality. The chrome, lights, and lenses are all in very good condition, and the glass has no chips or cracks.

The interior is in very nice condition all around, with no serious flaws or issues. The door panels are wrinkle free. The visors are flat. The wood trim is worn in places, and the top of the dash does have a crack, but everything looks very clean and sharp in total.
Mechanically, the car runs well with no trouble or issues. The motor fires right to life and delivers smooth power across the rev band, and the transmission shifts cleanly through the gears. It would make a dependable daily driver, as it can be driven anywhere you want to go with simple ease and pleasure. The car has no known leaks and/or mechanical issues and drives down the road straight as an arrow.
Steering and suspension are excellent. The tires are about half worn and the original Mercedes alloy wheels are in great shape. This Euro 280SL offers the best balance of power, economy and handling. No oversize V-8 to weigh the car down and overpower the car through the curves. The weight is well balanced front to rear.
This 280SL was purchased in Germany and after a three month sightseeing holiday, then shipped to the USA to enjoy the country club life. The only modification was to change the headlights and that was based on taste preference. Upon entry no modifications were made to the engine nor were any large intrusive bumpers installed. Unfortunately the car outlived its original owner and was passed onto his son. He had hoped his wife would enjoy it as much as his Dad but she never quite took to the manual transmission. After a shifting mishap in the garage the car was retired to the driveway and remained there for three years until I purchased it over ten years ago.
If you owned an SL in the past or you have always dreamed of owning one, here is your chance to own one of the very best with super low miles. I’ve even installed seatbelts in the rear for the potential buyers with growing families. I have been offered $10,000 just for the manual transmission. Presently, the NADA list this car at $24,900. This is a better investment then the stock market as you will not only be getting an investment that will not go down in value but one that will give you great pleasure and an Adrenaline rush every time you turn the key!
I personally believe the investment potential for these great German classics will grow beyond your imagination. Many 280SL's in this condition and quality are being quietly bought up by European and other worldwide buyers because of the favorable exchange rate and exported out of this country, leaving fewer and fewer available. For the true collector or enthusiast who appreciates and understands this up and coming classic, you will not be disappointed in this awesome motorcar.
Price reduced for immediate sale. Please call or text any questions to 203-395-5743.

1992 BMW 325i convertible, $7500

An E30 from The Ultimate Tanning Machine era

You could look all over the USA and not find the same deal. Rare. Car has 75000 miles. I bought this car in 2008 and have only driven it about 3000 to 4000 miles. I get a lot of positive comments from people. Heads always turn when this car is on the road. At the same time it is a practical vehicle. Decent gas mileage, insurance cost is low, maintanence is cheap. No rust. This car is very clean.

Introduction

My friend Lehho drives an aging 1999 323ci, which he loves. I think he's reaching the point of diminishing returns on maintenance, so I send him suggestions all the time. I figured, why not blog it, instead?

Lehho is six-and-a-half feet tall, so there will be no Miatas or S2000s on the list.
