2004 Pontiac GTO, $12,500

Are you kidding me? There are car guys who consider this one of the best cars sold with an American nameplate during the last 25 years. Is it slightly uninspired inside? Sure, and photos don't convey the subtle menace of seeing one in person. But think about everything you don't like about a Mustang, then fix it, and you have the 350hp, all-independent, six-speed GTO. Everything important--power, handling, "The best seats in any GM product ever," as Car and Driver said--is absolutely nailed down. It's fast, it handles and C&D saw 22 MPG, and that includes quarter-miles.

I had no idea you could get one for short money, let alone a low-mile six-speed babied like this. It's in KC and you know who to ask to help bring it home.

Year: 2004
Mileage: 49,439
Engine: V8, 5.7L LS1
Transmission: Manual, 6 Spd
Color: Limited Edition Pulse Red
Standard Options:
• Traction Control
• ABS
• Power Steering

• Air Conditioning
• Power Windows
• Power Locks

• Rear Spoiler
• 17" Alloy Wheels
Owner added options:
• K&N Stock replacement filter.
• Optima Red Top battery.
Other Items:
• Aluminum bound marketing book provided to all original GTO owners.

What we have here is an all original, single owner 2004 Pontiac GTO in limited edition Pulse Red paint. The last 800 GTOs to roll off the line in 2004 were all painted this color. Pulse Red is a darker red than the Torrid Red on normal GTOs. This color package also provided charcoal leather seats with GTO embroidered in red. Also, only 96 manual transmission cars were produced in this color making this a rare option car.
This car drives perfectly and is plenty fast when properly motivated with right foot, although, it will put around town without any drama. It has an extremely comfortable ride. This car only has 49,439 miles. It is adult driven, 50 miles each way to work and has a couple of road trips on it. This car has NEVER driven in salt or snow. Also, it has only been caught in the rain 5 times.
Always garaged, there is no rust anywhere on the car.
What is wrong on the car? Not much. There are three ¼ inch stone chips on the hood. A few smaller stone chips on the rest of the car. There is some damage on the rear bumper cover from when my garage door rubbed it.
This car has received all required scheduled maintenance. There are no leaks on this car. The tires were replaced with BF Goodrich KDWS tires at 33,000 miles. The current tires all have plenty of tread and show no signs of abnormal wear. The brakes have 1/4" in the from and 3/8" in the rear, good for 10-15K more miles. The brake rotors are original, never turned and not warped.
I have a clean title in hand. I believe this to be and investment grade vehicle that is near the end of it's depreciation period.
$12500. Serious inquiries only. Viewing by appointment only. Please respond via Craigslist email.

2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder, $9,799

I don't know why this never occurred to me before, maybe because it's 138hp. But they're known to fit the long of torso; the roof opens; and it's a five-speed. Plus, it's mid-engine, weighs 2,200 pounds and is RWD.

There's no write-up to speak of at the dealer, so I'll quote Edmunds:
The Spyder rides on a low-slung, long-wheelbase platform with MacPherson struts supporting each corner. An amazingly sharp and responsive electric hydraulic power steering system makes this little droptop a blast when ripping along canyon roads. With the mid-engine design, wide track and the suspension's speedy recovery ability, acrobatics on curvy roads equal some good times...once you get the MR2 Spyder revved up and onto the proper racing line at a track, you'll be smitten no matter what your opinion of the styling, inside or out. Thinking of autocrossing a small, inexpensive roadster? This Toyota is your car.
At a dealer in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Clean Carfax, people love them and I think they look cool. A test drive wouldn't hurt, right?

2000 Ford Mustang GT Convertible, $8,000

Lehho is right, the no-convertible scenario is untenable. What you need is an all-weather year round car, one that will give you your top down/power on fix, but at the same time be cheap, cheap to run and nothing you'll feel bad about using up in the salt and over potholes. You need a Mustang GT.

Drivers up to 6' 6" should be comfortable in a 1999-2004 Mustang and the 2000 already gained an inch of seat travel over the previous year, but if legroom is an issue, then there's a well-known seat track mod one can do in an afternoon, that reportedly lets the car accommodate drivers up to 6'10".

The 2000 GT had a limited slip rear end, the 260hp mod 4.6 and traction control--a set of snows and go easy on the throttle, and it should get through everything the 323 does.

Oooh. Sunburst Gold, new for 2000...

At $8,000 and 51,000 miles, this is one of the best-priced comparable cars on the national market; you'd probably expect about $11,500. The seller won't have any trouble moving it. It's in Norwalk, Connecticut--you could swing by on your way to work...

2000 Saab Viggen convertible, $6,500

Saabnet says this is priced right. In addition to the 9-5's 230hp turbos 2.3, Viggens had unique suspension, Viggen-logo leather seats and specific 17-inch wheels. These are not those wheels--they were fragile and essentially every Viggen you'll see has something like this optional Saab alloy. They only imported 800, out of under 3,000 built worldwide.

Silver convertible 2000 Saab Viggen. Has black interior. Low 102,000 miles (averages out to 8,500 miles per year.) First year for the Viggen Convertible. Limited numbers produced making this a collectable Saab. Air conditioning blows cold. Car runs excellent. This is my personal vehicle (I'm 65 so not hot rodded) that I have upgraded with the following: ECU tuned to Stage I by Nick Taliaferro of Taliaferro Saab, aftermarked larger inter-cooler installed, cold air intake, Saab Viggen rescue kit added, rear anti-sway bar and Koni adjustable shocks. Price reduced to $6500. Trades considered.

The Viggen will shock you with its acceleration and high-speed prowess, but stay out of the turbo and the five-speed will give you 30 MPG on the highway. An extraordinary car.

1979 Mercedes Benz 450SEL 6.9, $10,500

Is this the greatest of all Mercedes? It was certainly the greatest car in the world in its day, even if no one understood it. Well, some people did: Paul Frère, for example, drove his press car to 148 MPH. But as the M-100 Group said,
Some people find it difficult  even impossible, to understand the appeal of the 450SEL 6.9. Here was a car that looked exactly the same as another Mercedes costing £11,000 less in Britain at the time of writing. Only the fatter tyres and a little '6.9' badge on the tail gave the game away (and you could, if you wished, have the badge left off). On the road, this superlative vehicle could even be mistaken for one of the still smaller models at perhaps a third of its price. It was therefore poles apart from the Wagnerian splendour of the model 600 Pullman, or the flamboyance of the pre-war Grosser Mercedes. In terms of subtlety, you might as well compare a performance by Sir Alec Guinness with a turn by Danny La Rue.
But it was built for one, very serious purpose: To cover long distances at high speed. It does that in any conditions with utmost competence.

***ONLY 30,500 MILES***
RARE COLLECTABLE only 576 sold in 1979 in the US (a total of 1,816 Mercedes 6.9s were sold in the USA from 1976- 1980, making this an extremely rare vehicle)
This beautiful flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class was the fastest production sedan built in its' day. Known as the doctor's hotrod, this is truly an exotic and exciting car. This car's reliable drivability makes it a great daily driver, and the preserved quality and low mileage make this a great collectable.
This is your chance to own one of the greatest automobiles ever construction.
This Benz SEL is equipped withMercedes' 6.9 V8 engineAutomatic TransmissionHeight Adjustable SuspensionCold A/CHeatPower SunroofPower WindowsOriginal Becker Radio SystemCurrent Virginia Inspection
The following are a couple notable references to the car's history and quality:"In a poll conducted by Britain's Classic & Sports Car magazine and printed in their April 1999 edition, the Mercedes-Benz 6.9 ranked fourth on their list of the "world's greatest saloons." The May 2004 edition of another British publication, Mercedes Enthusiast magazine, ranked the 6.9 number fifteen on their all-time top twenty list of great Mercedes-Benz automobiles."

You'd be paying less than a quarter the original retail price for what David E. said was "the ultimate manifestation of the basic Daimler-Benz idea of how automobiles are supposed to be designed and built—the best Mercedes-Benz automobile ever sold." And that is really saying something--this is the best deal we've ever featured on The Cars of Lehho.

Read David E.'s feature on it. You must buy this car.

UPDATE: The full pdf of the feature should be readable.

EVEN MORE UPDATE: My buddy Gerry Van Zandt and the 500E board have a discussion going on this very car
